Maya Tsekenis is a native New Yorker who grew up in a Greek & Nicaraguan household with all types of music playing in the background. Her father, an avid dancer, instilled a love and appreciation of the art form very early on. Some of her fondest memories are of family playing music, singing songs and watching her dad captivate the room while he "cut a rug."
Maya has colorful dance background, as she has trained in assorted styles including: ballet, tap, jazz, blues, belly dancing, swing, west coast swing, hustle, hip hop, traditional Greek styles, Salsa/Mambo, Cha Cha Cha & Latin Ballroom. She received extensive training under world-renowned Salsa artists. Maya's dance style can be described as a tasteful & subtle blend of genres with a musically expressive spirit.
Maya has competed nationally and internationally; winning first place gold medals in various dance competitions. She teaches at corporate events, birthday parties, and at public outdoor events in the summertime. Maya also offers private lessons for those who want to develop their skills, musicality and movement. She loves to motivate and inspire her students to be unique, expressive and move naturally.
